EDUCATION

TYAE is an association that is always changing and is open for all kinds of ideas. We are young and ready for action. At the same time we want to learn from experienced members and pass our knowledge on to younger people. TYAE is a place where you not only give but can also take a lot away with you.

Shenpen

Shenpen, which translated means “to help others”, is a new project of TYAE. The idea of this drop-in centre is to offer the necessary help for Tibetans, who are new in Switzerland, when dealing with administrative difficulties and other daily tasks. Furthermore, Shenpen is not only limited to its function as a drop-in centre, but also provides a meeting place for new friendships, interesting encounters and stimulating conversations.

Childrens Camp

A member of the TYAE always used to say: “The Children’s Camp is as much a part of TYAE, as butter is a part of tea”. Since more than thirty years we have been organizing a Camp for young Tibetans between the age of 8 and 13 years during the autumn holidays. During this week, Tibetan kids from all over Switzerland gather and learn more about the country of their parents and grandparents. At the same time, they get to mingle with children their age who share the same background. This is a camp where long-lasting friendships are built.

European Tibetan Youth Parliament

On 9th April 2010, the Tibetan Youth Association in Europe successfully launched the Tibetan Youth Parliament. The main goal of the Youth Parliament is to strengthen the network within the Tibetan youth in Europe. It has been a great honour for the TYAE when His Holiness the Dalai Lama addressed the Youth Parliament in person. In his speech, which was directed to the parliamentarians, as well as the members of the TYAE, His Holiness pointed out the great responsibility of the Tibetan youth in exile for the Tibetan movement. In addition to that, His Holiness also talked about the great importance of preserving the Tibetan culture and the Tibetan language in order to secure the continuity of the Tibetan people. His Holiness also praised the convening of the first European Tibetan Youth Parliament and called all the young Tibetans to build their own political opinion in the process of democratisation.

Action Camp

The last few years have been exciting and eventful. The Tibetan Youth Association in Europe was able to consistently call attention to the problems in Tibet through efficient media work and spectacular campaigns. However, behind each headline there is a lot of planning, preparation and work involved. We were able to accumulate more knowledge and skills with each campaign, but could also learn from previous mistakes. It is important to us that we pass on this know-how in order to establish a pool of capable and motivated activists and leading figures. We therefore organize an Action and Skill-sharing Camp every year since 2009, in which we provide the possibility for young motivated Tibetans to educate themselves and to learn more about the nonviolent way of resistance.
